Even as employers nationwide slashed some 63,000 jobs last month, more than a quarter of U.S. companies say they plan to hire within the next three months, according to a survey of 14,000 companies.

Corra has read that business is slowing down. Still, plenty of companies are hiring. Plenty are seeing the slower times as opportunity and are gearing up to take advantage of the downtown.

How? Become more effective with your client relations. Offer better service. Be more competitive with your pricing for goods and services. And hire the right people.

Hiring people without having a preemployment screening process in place can prove costly. What you lose in retraining or potential litigation can be a mighty sum. Corra realizes it may be self-serving but most companies find background checks are cost effective and go a long way in preventing catastrophe. Avoidance is a lot cheaper than damage control. Most will agree to that.

Hire. But choose carefully. Run criminal reports and education verification, as well as any other background searches that may fit your company’s particular needs.
