County Criminal Background Searches are going to cost more in New York State. Access to State and County Criminal Records through the New York Office of Court Adminstration (OCA) used to cost $52.00. It will now cost $55.00.
And why not?. With the cost of rice and wheat going through the roof, it is inevitable that certain access fees will increase. In the case of New York the OCA is the state unified court system and most New York counties are under its jurisdiction.
Corra believes when you do a New York county criminal search, you might as well search the whole state. With the exception of the few counties where the OCa does not apply, the prevailing wisdom at Corra is–you are in for a penny, or, now, $55.00, you might as well be in for the pound.
This OCA fee increase will not affect the County Civil Searches, which doe not come under the Office of Court Administration. Although, with most County Civil records, you may have to search the upper and lower courts, which means the more expensive and less expensive civil cases. This is not the case, however, with Federal Civil records.
