Here’s a hint for high school graduates or college students still majoring in indecision: Put down that guitar or book of poetry and pick up a laptop. Study computer science or engineering, and plan to move to a big city. A new survey out this week from AeA, the group formerly known as the American Electronics Assn., reports that jobs in the technology industry are growing at a healthy clip, especially in large cities. American kids and international kids, your services will be needed. All that time spent in the fluorescent glow of your computer screen, eating junk food and drinking coffee will not go to waste. Your efforts will be rewarded, as your skill sets will be in great demand.
Employers take note, some of your future hires will come from the United States. Others will come from abroad. You need to run background checks. Because…while some will be truthful about their education, others will lie. It is occurring with notable frequency, especially with International students coming to work in the U.S. It is occurring as well with American kids shipping off to overseas positions.
It is important to run international education verification and international employment verification, as well as criminal background checks. This is less of an elective issue anymore than it is a mandatory requisite. Otherwise you could be hiring the wrong people with exaggerated job histories and educational background. Not a good idea.
So the techie will be, if not king, at least a mainstay in the royal court otherwise known as the global marketplace. So choose your guys wisely and…Check them out before you hire.
