Don’t Let the Stock Market Dictate Your Hiring Practices

Who knew Wall Street would turn into a theme park with only one ride. The roller coaster. Everyone in the stock market it seems is on that roller coaster ride. Except of course for the one who have bailed and are waiting on the sidelines for the bull to makes its comeback. It is fair to say that investing in the stock market at this juncture is not for the faint hearted.

On television the alleged “experts” exhort you to hold onto your money, because the market they claim is for the long run. Yeah, sure, except when you are losing twenty percent or more of your investments, it’s tough to stay put. You have to wonder at times just who they are working for. Are they really, as they claim, taking up TV time for your best interests, or are they just shills for the companies who are scared to death of a major pullback. Pullbacks tend to drop the prices further.

It is fair to say you can’t time the market. But one thing that does hold true about the stock market and about the economy in general is that on the other side of the downturn there is the turnaround. Things do turnaround. And when they do, is your company prepared to make hay when the sun shines once again? Do you have your infrastructure in place? Is your technology advanced enough to meet the new demands? And do you have enough skilled employees who can kick into high gear?

Also, not everyone is slow right now. There are many businesses that are doing quite well. Some types of businesses thrive in economic downturns, they provide what people need for fair prices and with good service. Then there are the businesses who are taking advantage of the weak dollar andexporting their goods and services overseas. There has been good money in that.

When you prepare for the turnaround or enjoy a thriving business at the moment, the key issue is your employees. Good help can help you. Bad help can help destroy you. So employment checks are very necessary in this world, to help avoid the qualities or lack of them in job candidates that you really don’t need in your work place. More and more companies are relying on the education verification as well as the criminal background checks to filter their applicants. It’s smart business.

For smart business, pay no attention to Wall Street, otherwise known in Wizard of Oz speak as the “man behind the curtain.” Move forward. Be proactive. The worm turns. Don’t be left in the rut when it does so.

Check them out before you hire.
