It is pretty amazing when you think about it. The Homeland Security is having difficulty with staffing. From the looks of it, and in plain language, staffing efforts appear to be immersed in a bureaucratic quagmire. Not all that surprising, I suppose. Considering it is Homeland Security and such emphasis was placed on our being secure in our homeland and that this agency would do the job, it makes you wonder why no one anticipated loss of employees through attrition, recruiting and the other elements associated with recruiting.
Nevertheless, the government is the government, and it will analyzed and study for awhile, before moving forward. Let’s face it, proactive is not the word that comes to mind when you are talking about any bureaucracy. But th government will do what it does. The lesson to be learned is whether your business is proactive or not.
Are you anticipating your recruitment needs, loss of workers through attrition, etc.? Because on the day to day level being caught with your proverbial pants down can prove a messy and destructive situation. It is bad enough to not have business or to be chasing after new accounts to fill shortages. But it is even worse to retain new business and then not have the staff and support system to service your clients properly. This will prove an awful mess, and gaining back the clients you lose through poor service is highly improbable in this competitive world.
It is important to evaluate your recruiting needs and address them in a timely and orderly fashion. Have a strong recruiting policy in order, and a human resources system that can assess your employment candidates so that they are a good fit for the position. And be sure to run background checks on your employment candidates as part of your preemployment screening program.
Check them out before you hire.
