Looking for a job? Used Linked in, FaceBook or one of the other online social networks. As well as person to person contacts, the social networks are emerging as the key places to meet and greet, and to look for work.
According tot a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, employment staffing agencies as well as individual employers use linked in to scan for job recruiting prospects. In this economic downturn everyone is using every device they have to either look for work or to hire people. You can be sure that Lined In combers search for prospective candidates they can present for job searches offered by their companies. With some companies still offering bonuses to employees for passing on the right candidate, it’s a good way to pick u some extra money.
Job seekers can conduct research and determine which companies are actually hiring or will be in the near future. No doubt going on the social networks allows one to conduct a much more individualized and more precise employment searches than merely posting profile information and a resume on one of the Internet job sites.
Some social networking site offer background checks for workers on the job hunt. These are generally not advisable unless you are concerned with possible records and want to determine what is listed in your background before actually applying for a job. I know it may sound foolish, but some people actually forget what infractions they may have committed in the past. Others forget if they have had them expunged from their records. So for this purpose you can run your own background search.
However, if you believe this is going to shortcut the hiring process by offering up your own background report, think otherwise. Employers have their own preemployment screening programs in place and rely upon specific service to conduct their background checks. Most employers will not even consider your individual background report.
Any employer concerned with their job candidate’s background history will most definitely check them out before they hire.
