Statewide Criminal Records are an important background check. I am writing here of the non-database criminal background checks that are generally issued by the State Department of Public Safety or the Highway Patrol. In some instances, these non-database criminal records searches may also be issued by private entities who actively retrieve records from the courts on a daily basis.
While not quite as current as the county criminal records searches, the non-database state criminal records are often more accurate than the database searches. But, alas, as they are issued by the states, and since the states need money during this economic downturn prices are going up. As with the Motor Vehicle Records Searches, or MVRs, with the intent of meeting their budget crises, states are often doubling and tripling their fees.
While we can grouse and complain these are vital background searches, and we just need to accept this as the price of doing business.
As such, Kansas is raising its state fees, for state criminal records searches. Beginning October 1st, 2009, the court fee for Kansas Statewide Criminal Searches, will be $20.00.
Make a note of that. And check them out before you hire.
