Man Shoots Up an Oregon Drug Testing Lab

It was reported by AP that a man shot up a drug testing lab just outside Portland, Oregon.    He killed one woman, and wounded two other people before turning the gun on himself.   The Lab where the shooting took place is the Legacy MetroLab, which conducts drug tests for employers.  It employs six people.

So far, no reason has been provided as to why the man decided to shot up the lab.   I wonder of course if he was despondent, having failed a drug test that he had taken as part of a preemployment screening program.   At this point there is no telling about his motivation.   But given the economy and the difficulty in finding jobs, it wouldn’t altogether surprise me if he took out his job rejection on the lab that tested him positive for drugs.  But, like I say, this is just speculation on my part.

On a larger level, I have to wonder if this is a direct reflection of the anger and frustration out society as a result of the economic downturn.   Or is this essentially one loose screw who couldn’t control himself.    At any level, this is horrible, a true nightmare for the people who work in the lab and for the poor families of the victims.     I am sure the  entire town of Tualatin, Oregon is in shock from this senseless killing.

I will follow this story to see if there is any conclusive evidence as to the shooter’s motivation.
