Michigan to Conduct Tex Credit Background Checks

If your are applying for tax incentives or credits in Michigan, you may be required to undergo a background check.   That is if the Michigan Economic Growth Authority has its way and adopts its program for conducting background checks on individuals and businesses applying for tax breaks.

According to the New York Times, the new background checking program will not apply to companies who have at least a five year history of doing business in Michigan.  It will also not apply to publicly traded companies.

Given the economic meltdown of the past few years, this is a very prudent move.  It makes even more sense what with all the financial fraud that has transpired.   With lawn enforcement agencies so overwhelmed with investigation of financial fraud and economic malfeasance background checks are vital instruments in helping to prevent additional corruption.

Kudos for the Michigan Economic Growth Authority.
