This may have to do with background checks in an obscure way, but the story being so interesting, it was difficult not to comment. People conduct background checks on the horses competing in the Kentucky Derby and other major races. They may not search criminal records or ask for credit reports, but they certainly do what may be considered a reference verification by doing a background search on the horse’s lineage.
According to Phil Sims, on the Online Wire , he wrote about how Online Wire provides two publications, BoDog Racebook and SBG Global Racebook that feature the competing horses’ lineage. Apparently, it is a fine science, blending the right bloodlines for the perfect racing horse. Those wishing to bet on horses can review the bloodlines for assessment of the odds. Interesting.
Since I have been to the race track only about a half-dozen times in my life, I am not what you would call the target market. However, Simms contends that a good many wagerers will bet on a horse base don the horse’s lineage alone. Makes sense. I will take him at his word on this.
So, background checks on horses. Most interesting. I guess in this case we can say check them out before you go to the betting window.
