There are new job sites, or at least job sites that I just discovered, that are designed for those who are working in the media. Despite the lousy economy, everything helps, especially with the media getting hammers from all directions in all forms. Print, radio, television, even digitial and the Internet have experienced varying degrees of bad news. Each day when the media newsletters arrrive in my mailbox it reads like the casualty reports of some drastic battle.
The Media is Hunting accommodates situations wanted classified. These are mainly postings from people who are looking for work and list their skill sets and job experience. The Media is Hiring mainly posts help wanted listings from different companies still fortunate enough to be recruiting employees. There is to be some crossing over or mingling between the two websites. There is a third site, the Media is Dying, and that posts much of the bad news in the media industry throughout the country and around the world. You learn such news that the magazine, Canadian Home and Country, has been closed. A drag.
I guess it is best to describe these sites as the Craig’s List for media people. They are job sites that are informative with no online background checking offer that will ultimately do you no good in the long run. Every company and its human resources department has its own preemployment screening process, so your handing them your online background check is neither advisable nor acceptable. It costs you money, and you are on the job sites mainly because you are out of work. So keep the bucks.
At any rate, liked these sites. What I don’t like is watching the media indutry disappeared. We are liable to end up with homogenized same-same media, news and entertainment. More even than we have already.
Check them out before you hire.
