Family sues executive search guru in kin’s death
Posted by Michael Sangiacomo
The family of a man who died of an overdose of drugs has sued Jeffrey Christian, the wealthy Moreland Hills man charged with reckless homicide for providing the drugs that caused the man’s death.
Victim Thomas Wasil’s mother and brother, Eva Wasil and Joseph Wasil, both of Aurora, are seeking more than $25,000 from Christian, the founder of the internationally acclaimed executive search company Christian and Timbers.
Christian is awaiting trial in Portage County Court on charges of reckless homicide, involuntary manslaughter and inducing others to take drugs.
The suit says that Jeffrey Christian provided “large amounts of alcohol and cocaine” to Thomas Wasil during a party at Christian’s former home in Aurora on April 12, 2006. Then Christian “negligently and/or intentionally” gave him heroin on top of the cocaine.
The suit said that Wasil “passed out and appeared to have died” at Christian’s home, but that Christian did not call for an ambulance. Wasil eventually woke up and drove himself to his Reminderville home, where he died.
The victim’s brother, Joseph, said he suffered emotional distress after the death when Christian taunted him by “inviting him to party.”
Corra realizes this is an extreme case. But the article in depicting the extreme does demonstrate that there are some working as headhunters and at employment agencies who make the already tough task of finding a job that much tougher. Most headhunters and employment services are quite reputable. But like anything else in this world, there are the exceptions.
Corra is aware of a few people and in fact of several headhunting or employment agencies that are far more interested in taking your money than furthering your career. So before you commit yourself by signing any contracts, and certainly before you pay any money upfront, don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Corra can provide you with background searches that allow you to check out the company your dealing with. A good many of the shyster outfits get substantial retainers before they try and find you a job. That’s large money out of your pocket. And once you pay it, just try and get it back. A few bucks to a company like Corra can help you avoid the unpleasantness of embarrassment and loss of funds.
So call us, and ask what searches would be of benefit. Don’t forget to check them out before you sign anything.
