More Companies Are Conducting Employment Background Checks

There is an article on College Recruiter.com about the use of pre-employment background checks being on the increase. The article cites figures from 9% to 14%, depending on the specific search and the related industries that are recruiting. The article further contends that criminal background searches and education verifications are part of the reason for the increase.

At Corra Group we see an increased interest in employment checks. Enough companies have been snake bitten that they now realize they should be conducted at least rudimentary pre-employment background searches, even on their labor and entry level employment candidates.

Since the article was posted on College Recruiter, we should note that employment candidates lie mostly on their criminal records and education. While they embellish their employment history, their education history is the more suspect. They often list themselves as graduates when they only enrolled for a couple of years or in some cases never attended at all. Makes you wonder why they chose that particular school as the school they graduated from and never went to.

International education verification is becoming a larger factor, as is International employment verification. As more job prospects are recruited from different countries this will become an even larger factor in the pre-employment screening process.
