Talking Yourself Out of the Job

How Not To Get Hired

By Marvin Walberg
Scripps Howard News Service

It’s been said that you learn better when you’re having fun, so let’s learn how to get hired at someone else’s expense.

It’s time for CareerBuilder.com’s annual survey of the most outrageous interview mistakes that candidates have made, based on 3,000 hiring managers and human resource professionals nationwide. CareerBuilder is the nation’s largest online job site with more than 23 million unique visitors and over 1.6 million jobs.

The Top Ten list includes:

— Candidate answered cell phone and asked the interviewer to leave her own office because it was a “private” conversation.

…The drum roll begins….

— Candidate told the interviewer he wouldn’t be able to stay with the job long because he thought he might get an inheritance if his uncle dies and his uncle wasn’t “looking too good.”

— Candidate asked the interviewer for a ride home after the interview. For the entire story go to the KYPost.com

Corra believes you would have to be an idiot to make the faux pas that are listed in this story. But then no one has complained about a shortage of idiots.

This article is good as reverse engineering. As an employment candidate it can mean one thing. For the employer, it can mean quite another. Essentially, this is a good check list for any HR Manger in assessing the qualifications of any job candidate.

If your job candidate should survive the interview process it is essential to have a pre-employment screening in place. It is necessary to keep your searches uniform. what you do for one candidate, you must do for another. But you can vary the searches, more complex reports for your managerial and executive staff and simpler searches for the clerical and labor.

Corra has employment packages to fit every echelon. Corra will customize any package to fit your particular needs.

Check them out before you hire.
