The Motor Vehicle Driving Records Report (MVR) is a a most versatile background check. The MVR or DMV, the common term varies, depending on which state you are in, will reveal behavior patterns as well as the simple driving records.
The MVR Driving Report will show DUI’s or DWI’s, again the nomenclature can change from state to state. One DUI on a driving record is a red flag, but still your employment candidate may have had one bad night where he either celebrated too much or stayed at the bar too long, morning the loss of his girlfriend. But more than one, then certainly there are substance abuse issues that should be examined by Human Resources Managers and any employer.
A few mishaps on the driving records is one thing. Repeated violations will tell much about your employment candidate’s character and personal habits. If you see the job candidate’s license has been suspended or revoked, there is cause for concern. Again, substance abuse may be one of the issues.
Then there are those job applicants who get stopped repeatedly and fail to appear in court. Who fails to appear in court? Who fails repeatedly to appear in court? Obviously, this is someone you may reconsider as a viable applicant.
The MVR Motor Vehicle Driving Report, especially when coupled with other background searches will behavior and character patterns. So even if your candidate will not be driving for you on an official basis, it is still a worthwhile component of your pre-employment screening process.
